Created in the style of Mount Auburn Cemetery in Boston, Glendale Cemetery was established in 1839 as a shady, picturesque ground for Akron's prominent citizens. Dotting the gentle swells of land, mausoleums and monuments to those buried vary in style from Gothic to Egyptian to Grecian and Romanesque. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the cemetery grounds lie just west of downtown, about a mile from the University of Akron.
