Akron Zoo is a midsized wildlife park, devoted to the conservation and housing of such exotic animals as the American bald eagle, the capybara and the Chilean flamingo. In 2005, the zoo received the largest expansion in its history, creating the Legends of the Wild exhibit with 380 new animals and a 30-foot waterfall, and the Komodo Kingdom, an exotic reptile center with a dining area offering indoor and outdoor seating. It lies on over 50 acres just west of downtown, on the east side of Perkins Park.
